Le Mosaiste is French and literally means 'the mosaic maker', which is a trade the Farhi family has been in for several generations. The name was chosen, says Miloud Farhi, who is a maâlem (Ar. master artisan) himself, because the select group of artisans at Le Mosaiste performs at the highest levels of Moorish craftsmanship to produce mosaic masterpieces frequently used in hammam style bathrooms and ultra-custom kitchens.

Many have come to appreciate the company's vast web catalog of ceramic tile products over the last few years. Now you can fully experience them in person at their brand new West Hollywood showroom.

The Location
The showroom is conveniently located right behind Kathryn Ireland's new showroom, within walking distance of places like the Pacific Design Center and Walker Zanger. Until recently this showroom space was home to Harbinger Fabrics & Wallpapers by well-known interior designer Joe Lucas. Together with Nathan Turner, he came up with the concept of the Almont Yard.

The Courtyard
Upon arriving, you will notice the black street sign right before entering the courtyard through large, rustic iron gates. A gravel path lined with abundant greenery leads past an Arabesque fountain straight to the showroom. The space itself, a Cape Cod cottage-style structure with double Dutch entrance doors, beautiful hardwood floors, and multiple skylight windows, is a rare sight in a hustling and bustling city like Los Angeles. You may very well feel like you are visiting a small town in the Provence.

The Product
Once inside you will be captivated by an unrivaled collection of genuine Moorish mosaic patterns along with other types of handmade tiles. The enormous 5'x4' Moresque mosaic on the front wall will give you a glimpse of what it's like to be an Arab king, whereas the extensive photo gallery display will teach you how versatile Le Mosaiste tiles are in terms of style and use.
Aside from traditional Moroccan tiles, Le Mosaiste also works closely with its artisans to provide tile color and design options which complement more contemporary architecture and design styles, such as the subtle single-color version of the elaborate 1-42 Essalam pattern adapted for a kitchen in Palo Alto (http://twitpic.com/6idy1k). Many of these new color schemes were created recently in collaboration with innovative designers and can only be seen, exclusively, at the company's new showroom.
