Quartz surfacing has increased in sales, though still behind granite in popularity.

Craftmark announced that quartz has soared in sales this year, challenging granite for the title of best countertop surface. Although granite may have a quartz component, the two vary in appearance and upkeep. Granite is 100% natural; the stone is taken straight from the earth, polished, and then cut into slabs. Quartz, on the other hand, consists of both natural stone as well as some man-made products in order to enhance its durability and consistency.

Atlanta granite countertops enthusiasts swear by the natural appearance of granite, but the fan base for quartz is growing as well. While granite countertops are so popular that they can even raise the value of a home, they do require additional maintenance and should be sealed about once a year. Quartz, on the other hand, does not need to be sealed and is more resistant to bacteria, staining and heat.

With some patterns of quartz resembling the appearance of granite, there is no telling how far quartz countertops will go if sales keeps climbing. Craftmark is keen to continue to monitor sales of both quartz and granite countertops in Atlanta to determine the winner of this race for best kitchen surface.
