J.P.Walters Design honors mid-century icons in sky-high retreat.
Inspired by this building's history as the former SDG&E power plant, designer Jim Walters created a mid-century theme to blend modern and historic tones.

SAN DIEGO, CA, September 25, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- "Start to finish, this project was a heartfelt experience," says Walters. "My client Lowell was recently widowed, and had sold all his belongings including a 2.5 acre home. He was highly motivated to create a whole new life for himself, and this made me eager to satisfy his appreciation of comfort and style. I believe that our work together resulted in a classic, masculine interpretation of mid-century modern design."

Jim designed the clean-lined sofa, ottoman, and coffee table to mix easily with iconic furniture pieces like the Eero Saarinen Womb Chair and the Arne Jacobsen Egg Chair. Space planning was a challenge, since the living room is triangular, with windows dominating. Angles were softened with a custom area rug that was designed to perfectly fit the space.

The Electra offers some of the most impressive city views to be found in San Diego. Inspired by bay vistas and evening sunsets, Jim splashed vibrant accents of dark crimson and deep blue against elegant but subdued backgrounds. "My goal was for this interior to complement the historical views featuring Union Station, Navy Pier, and the marina," Jim adds.
